[I’ve made this twice. See my comments below.]
I have a habit of buying bananas with every intention of eating them, only to let them sit on the counter until extra ripe. I get tired of making regular banana bread sometimes, so this time I decided to make Chocolate Banana Bread instead.
This was a simple recipe to make. I used 4 bananas because that’s what equaled 1 ½ cups. I substituted canola oil instead of melted butter, and used mini chocolate chips because I was out of regular chocolate chips. I baked this 43 minutes. {Edit 10/27/2011: I used my oven thermometer the second time I made this, so I know the oven was at exactly 350F. It baked 58 minutes before it was done. No idea why it was different – but that’s why it’s important to make sure a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean!}
Everyone who tried this said it was really good. It was a great combination of chocolate and banana, and was nice and moist. I didn’t enjoy the walnuts in the bread, but those would be easy enough to omit. I did really enjoy the addition of chocolate chips. Alex said he liked it a lot more than regular banana bread. Everyone makes banana bread, so the chocolate banana bread was a real treat. I’ll make it again.
