We were late in buying chocolate chips, and actually couldn’t find any semisweet ones in the store on Christmas Eve. I decided instead to make this Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe with Christmas M&Ms instead.
I used real butter and shortening, as the recipe called for. This recipe actually takes ⅔s brown sugar and ⅓ white sugar, rather than (what I consider to be) the standard equal proportions. The cookies are leavened with baking soda (no baking powder, and actually no salt, either). The recipe called for 2 eggs instead of 1. I tossed in a full bag of Christmas M&Ms. I baked each batch for 10 minutes in a 375F oven. I made them a little bigger than the recipe said to (I guesstimated) so I only got about 40 cookies.
I actually didn’t let the edges brown on these. The cookies were pretty good. They were soft and chewy, and had a good flavor. This was a pretty good chocolate chip recipe overall. I’d try it again.
